Taxon description
Szeroko rozmieszczony w Europie, do niedawna nie odróżniany od Brachycaudus cardui (L.).
Według Börnera (1952) holocykliczny i różnodomny, którego żywicielem pierwotnym jest tarnina. Latem żeruje na przyziemnych i podziemnych częściach różnych roślin złożonych — Matricaria discoidea DC., Senecio jacobaea L., Arctium lappa L., Galingsoga parviflora Cav. Przez niektórych autorów uważany za podgatunek lub odmianę Brachycaudus cardui (L.).
