Szeroko rozmieszczony w zachodniej Palearktyce.
Gatunek holocykliczny i prawdopodobnie różnodomny, ale żywiciel wtórny nie jest znany. Żyje na topoli czarnej — Populus nigra L. w dużych, workowatych wyroślach na zdrewniałych gałązkach.
