Europa, Zakaukazie, Kazachstan, Syberia.
Gatunek holocykliczny i różnodomny. Migruje z drzew i krzewów podrodziny Pomoideae na różne gatunki traw. U nas znaleziony na Malus domestica Borb., Pirus communis L., Sorbus aucuparia L., Mespilus germanica L. i Crataegus monogym Jacq. Na trawach żeruje zwykle na częściach podziemnych i odwiedzany jest przez mrówki.
