Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w zachodniej, południowej i środkowej Europie oraz w południowej, europejskiej części ZSRR, notowany również z Turcji. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadko spotykanym, łowionym na nielicznych stanowiskach tylko w pięciu krainach. Występuje na pobrzeżach rzek i na miejscach wilgotnych pod napływkami, kamieniami, opadłymi liśćmi i wśród mchów.
