Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w prawie całej Europie (prócz jej skrajnych części południowych), notowany też z zachodniej Syberii. W Fennoskandii sięga do skrajnej północy, w środkowej i południowej Europie występuje głównie na podgórzach i w górach, osiągając piętro kosodrzewiny i hal. Żyje w strumykach i źródłach, oraz kałużach przez nie utworzonych, spotykany najczęściej w miejscach płytkich o dnie żwirowatym lub piaszczystym, słabo zarośniętych.
