Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony prawie w całej Europie z wyjątkiem jej skrajnych obszarów południowych i północnych, na wschód sięga do Kaukazu i Zakaukazia. Występuje zarówno na terenach otwartych jak i leśnych, na nizinach i w górach prócz wyższych partii, głównie w drobnych, zarośniętych zbiornikach wodnych lub w wodach wolno płynących, rzadko spotykany w dużych zbiornikach i wodach kwaśnych.
