Taxon description
Gatunek holarktyczny, w Europie rozmieszczony od najdalszych krańców północnych aż do krajów śródziemnomorskich, przy czym w miarę posuwania się na południe coraz częściej spotykany na obszarach górskich, rzadziej natomiast na nizinach. Wprawdzie brak jeszcze udokumentowanych danych z wielu krain, prawdopodobnie jednak występuje w Polsce na całym obszarze oprócz wyższych partii górskich. Występuje pod rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi, gnijącymi grzybami, pod ekskrementami. Larwy rozwijają się jako pasożyty w pupariach muchówek. Z uwagi na niszczenie muchówek szkodliwych w uprawach kapusty, kalafiorów i niektórych roślin okopowych, jest gatunkiem pożytecznym w rolnictwie. Znaczne straty ponosi jednak w wyniku chemicznych zabiegów, stosowanych w celu ochrony roślin — większe niż szkodniki, przeciw którym zabiegi te są wymierzone.
