Burakowski et al. 2000:

Gatunek niedawno opisany z Holandii, Anglii, Norwegii, Finlandii, Niemiec, Polski, Czech, Moraw, Austrii, Węgier, Rumunii i Turcji; notowany także ze Szwecji, Estonii i Danii, Bardzo blisko spokrewniony z Hydrochus brevis (Herbst), ale występuje w kałużach i rowach na gliniastym podłożu, gdy tymczasem Hydrochus brevis (Herbst) na podłożu torfiastym lub piaszczystym.
