Bardzo rzadko spotykany gatunek zamieszkujący południowo-wschodnią część Europy oraz Europę Środkową, notowany również z Kaukazu. W Polsce znany tylko z pojedynczych okazów. Wykazany ze Śląska Górnego na podstawie starego okazu z ubiegłego stulecia, występowanie omawianego gatunku na tym obszarze jest prawdopodobne, gdyż stanowiska jego znajdują się w pobliżu granic Polski (Słowacja, Morawy). O występowaniu w Bydgoszczy wątpią Kuntze i Noskiewicz (1938). Z uwagi na ogólne rozmieszczenie wydaje się nieprawdopodobne zasiedlenie Prus. Możliwe, że okaz, na podstawie którego Sturm opisał Licinus depressus, był zawleczony z południa, albo był opatrzony mylną etykietą z miejscem znalezienia. Warunki ekologiczne mało znane. Okaz z okolic Sandomierza znaleziony był na piaszczystej miedzy przy łanie zboża (M. Mroczkowski*).
