Gatunek rozmieszczony w zachodniej, środkowej i południowej Europie, wykazywany także z Kaukazu i Azji Mniejszej. W Polsce bardzo rzadki, znany tylko z kilku stanowisk na Roztoczu. Zasiedla ciepłe miejsca na obrzeżach lasu, w rzadkich zagajnikach oraz na trawiastych zboczach pagórków. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się w czerwcu i lipcu, ale optimum pojawu ma miejsce w sierpniu. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w gniazdach błonkówek (Hymenoptera), gatunków z rodzaju Anthophora Latr. i Colletes Latr.
