Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1987:

Gatunek rozpowszechniony w prawie całej Europie (prócz skrajnych obszarów północnych), na wschód przez Syberię docierający do Chin, notowany ponadto z Algierii. W Polsce chrząszcz pospolity, ale stosunkowo rzadko notowany, występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze prócz wyższych partii górskich. Zasiedla lasy, zarośla, suche łąki i zbocza, zręby i przydroża. Larwy żerują w szyi korzeniowej i w niższej części łodygi bylin zwłaszcza gatunków z rodzaju starzec — Senecio L. i chaber — Centaurea L. Larwy zimują w szyi korzeniowej lub w korzeniu; przepoczwarczenie następuje wiosną, postacie dojrzałe ukazują się w maju i przeżywają do sierpnia; przebywają one głównie na trawach i kwiatach w sąsiedztwie roślin żywicielskich.
