Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem Karpaty, wykazywany ponadto z Bułgarii i okolicy Petersburga. W Polsce występuje od Beskidów Zachodnich po Bieszczady. Dawna wzmianka (M. Nowicki 1873) o niewystępowaniu tego chrząszcza w Galicji okazała się błędna wobec stwierdzenia licznych stanowisk w Tatrach i Bieszczadach. Zamieszkuje lasy mieszane z bukiem i świerkiem, gdzie występuje głównie na polanach, wyrębach i nad potokami. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano na krzewach i roślinach zielnych, należących zwłaszcza do rodzaju starzec — Senecio L.
