Taxon description
Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem większą część Palearktyki, w Europie występujący od koła polarnego do krajów śródziemnomorskich. Pospolity w Polsce na całym obszarze, nie znany jeszcze tylko z Podlasia, Niziny Sandomierskiej i Sudetów Wschodnich. Żyje na różnych gatunkach koniczyn i w uprawach może wyrządzać znaczne szkody. Larwy żerują w główkach kwiatowych powodując na nich wyrosła. Najczęściej atakowana jest koniczyna łąkowa — Trifolium pratense L., koniczyna białoróżowa — T. hybridum L., koniczyna biała — T. repens L., koniczyna dwukłosowa — T. alpestre L. i koniczyna żółtobiała — T. ochroleucum L., niekiedy uprawiana jako koniczyna szwedzka. Młode larwy wyżerają części kwiatowe, zwłaszcza słupki oraz formujące się nasiona. Rozwój larwalny trwa 2-3 tygodnie, stadium poczwarki 8-10 dni. Zimuje postać dojrzała.
