Taxon description
Obszar rozprzestrzenienia tego gatunku obejmuje prawie całą Europę (z wyjątkiem północnej części Fennoskandii), Syberię, Azję Środkową i północną Indię. W środkowej Europie występuje głównie na terenach nizinnych i pagórkowatych, w południowej części kontynentu europejskiego wkracza w górach do strefy alpejskiej. W Polsce dość pospolity, z wyjątkiem wysokich gór prawdopodobnie występuje w całym kraju. Zamieszkuje zarówno tereny otwarte, jak i lesiste, znajdowany przeważnie na padlinie zwierząt stało i zmiennocieplnych, rzadziej pod ekskrementami.
