Taxon description
Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony gatunek w Europie na obszarach górzystych, od wschodniej Francji, Średniogórza Niemieckiego, Alp przez Sudety i Karpaty aż po Rumunię i północny Bałkan. W Polsce występuje wzdłuż całego pasma sudecko-karpackiego. Wzmianka sprzed przeszło 80 lat o znalezieniu tego ryjkowca na Śląsku Górnym wydaje się być niewiarygodna. Zasiedla wilgotne lasy, zarośla, łąki i hale górskie, ziołorośla na brzegach potoków, wąwozy i żródliska. Poławiano go na różnych roślinach zielnych, jak lepiężnik biały — Petasites albus (L.) Gaertn., miłosna górska — Adenostyles alliariae (Gouan) Kern., ostrożeń warzywny — Cirsium oleraceum (L.) Scop., bodziszek łąkowy — Geranium pratense L., wiązówka błotna — Filipendula ulmaria (L.) Maxim. Ponadto larwy stwierdzono na świerząbku orzęsionym — Chaerophyllum hirsutum L., rdeście wężowniku — Polygonum bistorta L., szczawiu alpejskim — Rumex alpinus L., wrotyczu pospolitym — Tanacetum vulgare L. i bodziszku błotnym — Geranium palustre L. Larwa przed przepoczwarczeniem wytwarza biały, siateczkowany kokon.
