Gatunek pochodzący z południowo-wschodniej Azji, przywędrował na kontynent europejski, szybko się rozprzestrzenił i zaaklimatyzował. Po raz pierwszy w Europie Środkowej stwierdzony w 1982 r. na Morawach, następnie notowany z Finlandii, południowej Szwecji, Niemiec, Polski, Czech, Słowacji, Austrii i Jugosławii. W Polsce dotychczas wykazany z nielicznych stanowisk w dziewięciu krainach. Występuje w kompostach, ekskrementach, nawozie, gnijących szczątkach roślinnych i na padlinie.
