Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w zachodniej i środkowej części Europy, docierający na wschód do Ukrainy Zachodniej; notowany poza tym z północnych terenów Hiszpanii i Włoch. W Polsce dotychczas z całą pewnością jeszcze nie stwierdzony — przed przeszło 130 laty wykazany z Kłodzka i prawdopodobnie na tej podstawie ogólnikowo ze Śląska. W spisie chrząszczy polskich został umieszczony przez M. Łomnickiego (1913), ale dane, na których oparł się ten autor, odnosiły się do terenu leżącego na wschód od obecnej granicy. Istnieje jednak możliwość znalezienia omawianego gatunku na południu kraju, gdyż jest notowany z Czechosłowacji i Ukraińskiej SRR. Zasiedla świetliste i odroślowe lasy na terenach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach górskich do wysokości około 1200 m n. p. m. Pełny cykl rozwojowy trwa co najmniej dwa lata. Larwa żyje w glebie na miejscach otwartych, zwłaszcza polanach leśnych i łąkach górskich. Stosownie do położenia stanowiska czas pojawu postaci dojrzałej rozciąga się od kwietnia do czerwca, w górach do lipca; chrząszcze są przeważnie poławiane na niskiej roślinności oraz na listowiu i kwiatach krzewów i drzew liściastych.
