Taxon description
Gatunek znany z Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii, południowej Szwecji, Finlandii, Francji, Włoch, Jugosławii, Niemiec, Polski, byłej Czechosłowacji oraz z Moskwy. W Polsce rzadko i lokalnie spotykany na terenach nizinnych. Znajdowany na roślinach zanurzonych w wodzie oraz na pobrzeżach wód — na roślinach, w detrytusie i wśród szczątków roślinnych. Jako rośliny żywicielskie tego ryjkowca są podawane moczarka kanadyjska — Elodea canadensis Rich., osoka aloesowata — Stratiotes aloides L. i żabiściek pływający — Hydrocharis morsus-ranae L.
