Gatunek europejski, występujący w południowo-wschodniej Anglii, południowej części Fennoskandii, Karelskiej ASRR, całej środkowej części Europy, na południe docierający do Pirenejów, Włoch i Rumunii. Wszędzie, również w Polsce, rzadko spotykany; u nas znany z rozproszonych nielicznych stanowisk w południowej części kraju. Żyje w grzybach licznych gatunków, porastających stare pniaki i zmurszałe pnie, m. in. w łuskwiaku zmiennym — Pholiota mutabilis (Schaeff.) Pr.
