Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony głównie w środkowej i północnej Europie, gdzie dociera do 63° szer. geogr. W Polsce na miejscach połowów dość pospolity, ale rzadko wykazywany. Znajdowany w stawach i pod napływkami po wylewie rzek.
