Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 2000:

Aczkolwiek opisany przed przeszło 130 laty z północnej Rosji i Litwy, dotychczas mało znany, gdyż ze względu na duże podobieństwo do Hydrochus elongatus Schaller uważany powszechnie za jego synonim. Według dotychczas zrewidowanych danych o rozmieszczeniu, przyjmuje się, że zasięg obejmuje Fennoskandię, Karelię, Estonię, Łotwę, Danię, kraje Beneluksu, Niemcy, Polskę, Czechosłowację i Austrię. Z Polski wykazany niedawno z dwu stanowisk na Mazurach. Występuje na bagnistych pobrzeżach morskich, w płytkich wodach rzek i jezior porośniętych roślinami oraz w rowach z występującymi w nich turzycami — Carex L.
