Taxon description
Pospolity gatunek holarktyczny, rozsiedlony w całej Europie, sięgający w Skandynawii daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. Zasiedla całą Polskę od Bałtyku aż po Tatry. Chowacz tasznikowiec jest spotykany w różnych suchych i wilgotnych środowiskach, na licznych krzyżowych — Cruciferae, zwłaszcza na taszniku pospolitym — Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Med., rosnącym na polach, przydrożach i śmietnikach. Samica składa wiosną jaj a na dolnej stronie ogonka albo nerwu liściowego; jajo jest wprowadzone do krótkiego kanalika, uprzednio wygryzionego w tkankach liścia i pokryte wydzieliną samicy. Larwa żeruje początkowo w blaszce i ogonku liściowym, następnie drąży łodygę i dociera do korzenia, skąd na przepoczwarczenie przewędrowuje w czerwcu-lipcu do gleby.
