Taxon description
Gatunek mało znany, traktowany do niedawna jako synonim Ceutorhynchus posthumus Germ.; jest rozmieszczony głównie w zachodniej i środkowej części Europy oraz w Danii i południowej Szwecji. W Polsce rzadko i sporadycznie znajdowany, notowany tylko z czternastu krain, ale wzmianki z ubiegłego wieku o zasiedleniu przez niego Śląska Dolnego, Wzgórz Trzebnickich i Sudetów nie zostały uwzględnione w spisie chrząszczy śląskich (Gerhardt 1910), z wymienionych krain ostatnio znaleziono go jedynie na Śląsku Dolnym. Potwierdzenia wymagają również dane sprzed przeszło stu lat o jego występowaniu na Mazurach i w Beskidzie Zachodnim. Spotykany na otwartych terenach piaszczystych. Jako roślina żywicielska tego ryjkowca wymieniany jest chroszcz nagołodygowy — Teesdalea nudicaulis (L.) R. Br. Larwa żeruje w łuszczynkach i żywi się nasionami.
