Taxon description
Gatunek występujący w południowej, zachodniej i środkowej części Europy; wykazywany z Algierii, Maroka i Anatolii. W Polsce rzadko spotykany, wykazany tylko z dziesięciu krain, przeważnie z pojedynczych stanowisk. Zasiedla pola uprawne, wilgotne łąki, przydroża, miejsca o charakterze ruderalnym, hałdy gruzu i żwirowiska. Roślinami żywicielskimi tego chowacza są: stulisz Loesela — Sisymbrium Loeselii L., kapusta rzepak — Brassica napus L., kapusta warzywna — B. oleracea L., kapusta polna — B. campestris L., świrzepa trwała — Rapistrum rugosum (L.) All., dwurząd wąskolistny — Diplotaxis tenuifolia (Juslen) Dc, gorczycznik pospolity — Barbarea vulgaris R. Br. i urzet barwierski — Isatis tinctoria L. Postacie dojrzałe spotyka się w ciągu całego roku. Od września do marca następnego roku, z przerwą zimową, samice składają jaja na dolnej stronie liścia do ogonków i nerwów liściowych, a nawet na łodygę. Pierwsze larwy pojawiają się we wrześniu; z początku żerują w liściu, następnie drążą chodniki w łodydze i szyi korzeniowej. Przepoczwarczają się w glebie na głębokości 2-4 cm. W niektórych krajach chowacz ten zaliczany jest do szkodników upraw rzepaku. Według S. Smreczyńskiego (1974) znajdowano go wyłącznie na stuliszu Loesela.
