Taxon description
Europa, Mongolia; dane z Dalekiego Wschodu wymagają potwierdzenia.
Gatunek holocykliczny i jednodomny. Żeruje na pniach starych modrzewi, u nas na modrzewiu polskim — Larix polonica Rac., chętnie w szczelinach powstałych na skutek uderzenia pioruna. Tworzy zwykle ogromne kolonie i odwiedzany jest zawsze przez mrówki. Produkuje znaczne ilości spadzi.
