Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, na północ docierający do Westfalii i Brandenburgii W Polsce nadrach czarny występuje pospolicie na terenach górzystych oraz lokalnie na stanowiskach nizinnych. Jest polifagiem żerującym na drzewach liściastych i iglastych, zwłaszcza na sosnach i świerkach. Generacja dwuletnia: w maju-sierpniu samica składa około 300-400 jaj, złożami do 60 sztuk, w szpary gleby lub w ściółce. Larwy żerują w glebie na głębokości 2-15 cm, młode na delikatnych korzonkach, starsze na silniejszych korzeniach, mogą się przemieszczać w glebie na korzenie innych roślin. Larwy starsze przezimowują, a przepoczwarzenie następuje w okresie lipiec-wrzesień, w komorze na głębokości 5-8 cm; postacie dojrzałe pozostają w glebie do wiosny.
