Burakowski et al. 1976:

Szeroko rozpowszechniony gatunek w prawie całej Europie z wyjątkiem niektórych części południowych, w Fennoskandii dociera do skrajnej północy, na wschód sięga do Syberii po Jakucką ASRR i Zabajkale. Występuje głównie w różnego typu zbiornikach wodnych, jak jeziorach, stawach, gliniankach, starorzeczach i łachach rzecznych, spotykany również w wodach bieżących w miejscach o słabym prądzie.
