Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w całej Europie (z wyjątkiem skrajnych obszarów północnych); wykazywany poza tym z Syberii, Mongolii, Chin i Algierii. Występuje w całej Polsce z wyjątkiem wyższych partii górskich. Kwieciak malinowiec żyje na różnych gatunkach poziomek — Fragaria L., malin — Rubus L., róż — Rosa L. i kuklików — Geum L. Postacie dojrzałe występują na roślinach od kwietnia do początku października i żerują na pączkach, płatkach koron i młodych, jeszcze zielonych owocach. Samice w maju i czerwcu składają jaja do małych, jeszcze zamkniętych pączków kwiatowych. Larwy pojawiają się po 5-7 dniach i odżywiają się tkankami pączka; po 3-4 tygodniach następuje przepoczwarzenie. Stadium poczwarki trwa 6-8 dni. Młode imagines żerują w lipcu-sierpniu na roślinach żywicielskich, następnie zimują w humusie, glebie i pod opadłym listowiem. Omawiany gatunek jest groźnym szkodnikiem w uprawach poziomek, malin, jeżyn, truskawek i róż, powodując niekiedy duże straty gospodarcze.
